Katy Perry..........................Katy Perry original name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, (born October 25 1984 Santa Barbara California U.S.) American pop singer who gained fame for a string of anthemic and often sexually suggestive hit songs as well as for a playfully cartoonish sense of style. Perry's initial efforts at fame in the mainstream were unsuccessful, with two separate record labels signing the singer and then pulling her out before she had any new material released. Capitol Records released Perry's Ur So Gay EP in 2007, and the track garnered only a small amount of attention due to the cheerfully silly title track. "I Kissed a Girl was a more aggressive ode to sexism, accompanied by an electro-pop beat that was hard to resist. It was not a popular song because critics condemned it for promoting relationships with a partner as well as others who claimed it portrayed a racy scene that enticed men's fantasies concerning female sexuality. However, the mix of titillation and polished melodicism made I Kissed a Girl become the number one song in a variety of countries and drove sales for her album One of the Boys (2008). The sharp, bouncy second single was also popular. This album that Perry composed for herself has sold over three millions copies in the United States.
